A masterclass illustration course that establishes fundamental skills for advanced drawing and painting techniques for various visual arts industries.

Course Details:
This course is designed for artists who are passionate about world-building, storytelling, and creating production art for film, television, and commercials. With a strong focus on the relationship between illustration, design, and film, it’s perfect for those eager to explore how art contributes to visual narratives. Film and comic book fans will especially enjoy the content and approach.

This course is perfect for students interested in exploring the world of film, television, and commercial animation. In this introductory course, students will gain a comprehensive overview of the foundational skills and principles needed to bring characters, stories, and ideas to life on screen. Through hands-on learning, they’ll delve into key aspects of production art, including storyboarding, character and prop design, and environment creation. Students will learn not only how to create these elements but also understand their purpose and place within the production pipeline. This course is ideal for anyone passionate about film and visual storytelling, eager to discover the role of art in the language of film.

Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have a portfolio piece for each major area of focus, giving them a well-rounded understanding of production art in film.

Dustin d’Arnault is a Character Designer and Visual Development Artist based out of Los Angeles, California. He has worked on various projects that span a variety of media, including print, television, and film. The most notable of these projects include “The Book of Life”, the final season of “Samurai Jack”, “Maya & the Three” and  Nickelodeon’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature film.

Students are tasked on a weekly basis with a variety of skill-building exercises, real-world assignments, and projects to help refine and improve. Assignments include creating publishing art based on existing narratives, celebrity portraits, and poster art for a mock client such as The Criterion Collection.
