1. Art Nouveau

Made famous in the late 1800’s, Art Nouveau pulled from numerous artistic movements. Drawing heavily from the Arts & Crafts movement, Japanese woodblocks, and Impressionism, it became the standard for posters, advertisements, and magazine covers. It’s popularity stretched into the late 1960’s with a resurgence in record covers from artists like Jefferson Airplane.

2. Political Illustration

There is no denying that political illustration has shaped editorial journalism. Serving as a way to succinctly summarize a person or character, it makes a point. It shapes the viewer’s opinion; it might even serve as pointed defiance of such a figure. Though we see this style every day, it serves an integral purpose as a powerful artistic tool.

3. The Digital Age

Since the early 90’s, digital illustration in art have been the great debate. But, with so much available and accessible, it is easy to see how digital art can be the pulse of an artist. We see our mentors and students using digital platforms and software to create stunning illustrations, beautiful figure drawings, and immersive digital worlds every day. Where do you fall? Are you ready to embrace technology as the norm, or are you keeping it classic with paper and canvas?
