Course Description:
The Art of the Cover five-week mini-course is an illustration course with a focus on the creation of effective cover art. This course sheds light on what makes a great cover and how to create clear and engaging ideas that communicate to the viewer. This cover art course is applicable to illustrators who want to create book covers, magazine covers, Blu-ray/streaming covers, album art, and poster art. Classes include lectures on idea generation, thumbnail sketching, and technique as well as demonstrations, and critiques.

Outcomes
Students will complete at least one cover art piece, and will establish an advanced understanding of cover art design.

An Award-winning artist: Edward Kinsella III

Edward has been commissioned by  The New Yorker, Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, and The Criterion Collection. He has illustrated 4 books for Folio Society including Stephen King’s the Shining, Misery, and Pet Sematary.

He has been profiled in Communication Arts Magazine and his work was included in Taschen’s Illustration Now! Number 5. His accolades include six medals from The Society of Illustrators New York, 19 Communication Arts Awards of Excellence, 4 Cube Awards from the Art Directors Club of New York, 2 Gold Cube Awards from the 3×3 International Illustration Pro Show, 4 Awards from The Society of Illustrators Los Angeles, and 3 Spectrum Fantastic Art Awards.

Mediums: created traditionally in his St. Louis studio using mixed media including graphite, ink, gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic, acryla gouache, and cut paper.

Edward’s original artwork is collected and exhibited around the world.
